Four People Shot at Howe Community Park – Unauthorized Event Ends in Shooting
Saturday night, an unauthorized gathering of an estimated several hundred individuals at Howe Park in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade neighborhood ended in a shooting when between 20 and 25 shots echoed through the area as law enforcement officers were actively clearing the crowd.
What Happened
Shortly after 6:30 PM, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department received reports concerning individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons at Howe Community Park. A follow-up call advised of a potential physical confrontation and people running from the area.
Air support was called in and surveyed the area from above but failed to identify the reported fight.
Nonetheless, multiple hundreds of people had gathered at the park for what officials called an unauthorized gathering. Responding deputies positioned themselves around the park, activated their vehicle emergency lights, and dedicated around 15 minutes directing the crowd to leave over loudspeakers.
As deputies were in the process of dispersing attendees, between 20 and 25 shots echoed through the area — sending the crowd scattering in all directions at once.
Those Injured
Four individuals — one woman and three male victims, all young adults in their 20s — were brought to area medical facilities.
